Proof or Consequences

Testimonials

I’ve been working with Shelley for several years.  She not only proofs, but she educates and helps me be the best reporter I possibly can! Her work is accurate, fast, and informative.  When I make the same grammatical errors more than once or twice, she points me to the rules of grammar instead of merely correcting it.  Whether you’re a newbie reporter or an experienced pro, having Shelley by your side will take you to a whole new level!

Robin M., Lake Worth, FL, Past President, Florida Court Reporters Association

A court reporter for well over 15 years, I feel that Shelley is beyond just “adequate” but is actually quite amazing, and am grateful for all her help that she has given to me as a court reporter. Not only is Shelley precise, not only does she cross-reference my transcripts and cite other areas where I was not consistent, Shelley is well versed in the rules governing English that pertain specifically to court reporters. Shelley has never missed a deadline, is always honest in terms of when she’ll deliver her work and never overbooks herself, so when she says 7 p.m. she means 7 p.m. Shelley also gives her clients a wordlist that is updated that I find invaluable.

I am so grateful to have found Shelley. If it wasn't for her, I am sure that my tired eyes would miss embarrassing mistakes. After being on the record all day and then scoping my job, I know that I can depend on Shelley's expertise and her fresh eyes to give my transcripts the final polish. It doesn't matter how technical or if the job is a rush, I know that I can depend on Shelley and her professionalism. She is amazing!

THANK YOU, SHELLEY!!

On another note, I wanted to tell you that I didn't send out cards (once again) this year, but I do truly appreciate all that you do for me. You are more appreciated than you will probably ever know!! I can't even...nor would I even consider sending my transcripts to anyone else. You have taught me a lot (even though you probably think you're correcting the same thing over and over), I do eventually catch on! Thank you so much, Shelley!! What you do for me makes my job a lot easier!!

I have used Shelley for almost six years.  She is a dedicated, hardworking proofreader.   As a court reporter, we always worry that our work will be returned to us due to proofreading errors.  I have never, in the six years that Shelley has proofed for me, received a complaint about my work.   I never worry about my transcripts because I know they've been read thoroughly.   She continues to update herself with the books necessary for punctuation rules and any changes that may apply.  I really do believe she is an asset to any court reporter who is looking for someone to work as hard.

During the past four years I have employed Shelley as my proofreader.   I find her service to be professional in all the ways needed to accommodate the court reporting field.  I have recommended her service to other court reporters and will continue to do so.

Being a court reporter I rely on Shelley tremendously. She is a perfectionist proofreader. Allowing Shelley to proof my work allows me to start editing another job without having to sit and proof the job and wasting time.  She is so thorough and observant; she catches everything.  Her grammar is exceptional.  And I have definitely learned with Shelley.  She adds little notes telling me this is a verb, a noun, citing the rule book on punctuation and giving me an explanation.  I have every confidence that I am turning in an excellent transcript when using Shelley.  Her services are well worth it.  It gives me peace of mind and satisfaction.  Thank you, Shelley.

I have been a court reporter for 30 some-odd years and have always been very picky about my work. Yes, we are a community of anal retentive people. It’s difficult to let somebody else do anything when we feel we can certainly do it better. Well, Shelley is, if anything, even more picky, so I always feel confident that she will do probably a better job of proofreading my stuff than I would.

Actually, I truly feel that after having been there taking it, having scoped it, by the time you’re ready to proofread, you just want it out of there and will see what you know should be there and not what actually is there. Fresh eyes do a better job at that point. And Shelley does have fresh eyes!

Susan S., Boynton Beach, FL

Sometimes you are not available to proof for me and then I have another proofer that I use. I had a job. It was a daily. I had it scoped. I sent it to the "other" proofer. She proofed. She sent me the corrections. I put them in. I sent the job in. A week later, I received an email saying how inferior my work was, how I sent in a "dreck" transcript. So I apologized. At that time you had a transcript of mine. You gave it to me. I decided to do a read, following your read. Out of the 180+ transcript, you had a few errors, mostly just preference stuff. The other proofer sent me a transcript back. I read it. Although her errata sheet had many errors for me, she had many more that were not found. I am no longer using her at all. You, I will still happily use. So the gist of my story is you're a good proofer, you should know that.
